How and When To Use a BaGua Mirror For Feng Shui

Question: Octagon shapes with mirrors, red and gold. what are they for and where should they go in the house?

If you ever visit a Chinese Souvenir shop or Feng Shui shop, you'll notice these octagonal shaped mirrors with lines (trigrams representing each section of the BaGua) painted on wood around them. Many people like the looks of them but may not know why or how you should use them.

The BaGua mirror is used to diffuse strong energy directed towards a specific point. A general guideline is that they should never be hung inside a home or business and only be used on the outside. There are special circumstances when you would hang one indoors but 98% of the time, always on the outside of a residence or business.

Examples of when to use a BaGua Mirror: If your home or business is at the end of a T-Intersection, if you have a corner or sharp object pointing at the front door, or if you are experiencing unpleasant energy from a particular area around your home or business. At that time, it would be appropriate to hang a BaGua Mirror pointing towards that direction.

The most common position is to place it over the front door for a business or home. Keep in mind that this should be diffusing energy that you find difficult and not necessarily because you just thought it should be there because it was for sale in a store.

I recently visited a home that had 6 BaGua mirrors hanging in the bedroom and hallway. I asked the individual why and they said, I don't know, because I thought that is what you were supposed to do and I always saw them at the store so I picked up a couple.

There actually was a recent law suit in San Fransisco's China Town where a store owner was suing another store owner because they placed a BaGua mirror over their door and was pointing at their business. This is the wrong approach when thinking about a BaGua mirror. It does not necessarily reflect the energy or send energy back to that location to make them suffer but actually is a method to transform the energy and disperse the energy.

So the next time you see a BaGua mirror, don't feel that you need to purchase it for Feng Shui unless you have a specific reason for placing it.

Question: If my front door faces south, what are suggestions for creating prosperous living space?

Great question. First, I personally come from the BTB or Black Hat school of Feng Shui and not Flying Stars or other compass based schools of thought. Take a look at this Feng Shui article regarding the cardinal directions and other schools of Feng Shui.

One important difference is that most traditional schools use the compass and the absolute or cardinal directions as a way of interpreting a given place in terms of wider universal factors. The Black Sect means of doing this involves understanding the site, not in terms of the fixed directions or compass positions, but in terms of the relative direction from which the Chi enters and on the site's unique qualities.

So the first thing that I would do is take a look at outside influences. What is the shape of the plot that the house is on, are there any hills going up or down, what is around the house. I take a look at the neighborhood and to see if there are streets heading directly toward the house.

Then I begin looking at the chi energy outside of the house. Meaning, what type of shape is the landscaping, bushes, trees, plants, flowers in? Are they healthy or are they dead. Are they well taken care of? I'm also looking at the outside structure of the house and the floor plan to see if there are any additions or missing areas in the house as this can have a variety of implications.

Then I start at the front door and work my way through the house. Take a look at the Feng Shui of an entrance video for how to evaluate the front entry way. The next most important area is the kitchen and stove. Is the stove clean and working correctly. Is the stove being used? The stove in Feng Shui is how you go out and get your money. It should always be kept clean and working. Even if it is to just boil water, you should be using your stove.

Then I review the bedroom. Take a look at this article regarding simple tips for the Feng Shui of a bedroom.

Then there are other considerations to look at regarding the chi that comes into the space from the front door. Is it going right back out again through a window or door across from the main entrance? Can the energy actually get into the door, meaning is the door on the side of the house.

Each of these situations requires a different remedy or method. There is no one way to conduct a Feng Shui consultation to increase wealth. Another question is, what does the energy of the space feel like. Who lived in the space prior to you being there and were they prosperous or declare bankruptcy?

There are so many factors to address or be on the lookout for when doing a proper review of a home. It is not just about adding some coins or adding a frog and hope that solves the issue.
